As those of you who follow my Facebook know I was mixing up a ton of polish from my Legend of Zelda collection (pre-sale still going on now!). I now have the finalized formulas completed 🙂 Because I was elbow-deep in glitter all evening I, being a glutton for punishment, decided I had to do glitter French tips.
This was so simple to do, also! I started with a coat of white (underwear, yay!) because I didn’t want to stain my nails using Savage like I did a few days ago. Next, two coats of each color, then a quick swipe over the whole nail of quick-dry topcoat and a quick dunk into a vial of loose coordinating glitter. Lots and lots of scraping off loose glitter that got on my skin and TA-DA! A lovely effect. I’ll be topcoating over these and I still expect half of the glitter to come off in my bed but who cares, right? If glitter comes off easy I’ll take it, lol!
This post is also part of Try It On Tuesday, my friend Jill at Jilltastic Nails is getting her blog buddies to use a polish on Tuesdays that they’ve just had sitting in their collection but never worn. Presto Pink was my Try It On color, and I think Urgent Orchid is unused, too! Check out her page, she’ll have a round-up of all the bloggers taking part in Try It On Tuesday.
As a side note, I adore Savage’s natural finish. I tried to get a picture of it but none turned out well. It’s a lovely satin-y matte, it just looks so smooth 🙂
My kitty…I love him, but sometimes he’s a little pain in the butt! Last night I was trying to paint my nails and he just wanted to cuddle, I wasn’t allowed to do anything else. Right as I was done taking pictures of my still-somewhat-moist manicure he rubbed right against my nails and smudged them all up. All the time I’d taken to let my base color dry was wasted! And look at how lovely it had been:
I actually had done a different design on my right hand (normal rainbow French tips in the same order as above with glitter over them) but he smudged those before I even had time for pictures.
I did the entire tip design for the mani that did last more than a few minutes using my dotting tools. I didn’t have time to topcoat so my ring finger is still matte, but I’m glad I didn’t waste it since I had such a lovey kitty waiting for me to be done–I would have just had cat fur all over them! So I ended up taking this off right away and going to bed with naked nails (so sad) but it did make it very easy to do an entirely different design this morning–two of them, in fact!
For my left hand I used a rainbow glitter I mixed up myself over (close to) rainbow ombre nails an I *love* it! It has a slight red jelly base and in the bottle it looks so red, but once it’s on the nail the rest of the colors really stand out. It’s not the look I’d hoped to get with the rainbow glitter but it’s very pretty! I might mix up another one for a giveaway 🙂
My right hand is my favorite look for the rainbow ombre colors I used for these 3 looks. Super simple, too! I just put black crackle over the ombre. I love them both!
Alice in Wonderland is still one of my all-time favorite cartoon movies. I watch it every few months 🙂 I hope you can all tell who inspired which nail, but just in case my art is that bad…from thumb to pinky: White Rabbit, Alice, Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter, Red Queen.
I did this all freehand, it didn’t turn out perfect but I’m still really happy with it. I need more practice with freehand, I have a whole week of it coming up in a little over a month!
Bad, blurry close-up of my favorite nail, inspired by Alice herself. Please ignore my cuticles! They are in need of some TLC.
This weekend has been so hectic, I haven’t even had time to blog!
Saturday was a-maze-ing! My friend had a nail polish get-together at her house and invited some of her friends, everyone brought nail polish and makeup and we spent 6 hours painting our nails, doing each others’ makeup, and baking cookies. I was in heaven! I don’t get to hang out with people too often so it was great to get some girl time 🙂 I even got to try my first Nerd Lacquer polishes (which totally fit in with this week’s theme of “geeky/gamer”)!!! Check it out!
After I had my Nerd Lacquer on I just had to use the little kitty and paw print stamps on my ring finger and thumb. I just got my first cat last Friday and I’m still gushing over how sweet and perfect he is 🙂

One lady and I totally hit it off and talked for pretty much the whole time we were there, lol! She loved my Obsidian and I couldn’t pass up a chance to show off the first person to try my new indie brand 🙂

After I was done playing with the polish I got into the Makeover Chair. I’m the kind of gal who wears makeup every 3 or 4 months and I haven’t had someone else do my makeup in probably about a decade. I’m glad I went for it, though! That night I only wore it out to one store but who cares, I felt awesome 😉
Ok, I really like polish jewelry–have you figured that out yet?? It’s so much fun!
I got a few clear gems from my mom last time I saw her and I knew I had to try to make polish jewelry with them. But I wanted to try something new! All the polish jewelry I’ve made before has just been simply painting on different polishes for a layered look. This time…I did water marble! Sorry some of the pictures turned out so horrible, cell phone plus shiny things don’t make for easy pictures!

Closeup 2–I love that holo!

They all had the same colors for the rainbow marble, though!
I’ve seen a few people doing “fish” nails recently, Spektor’s Nails seems to be the most commonly linked to (and for good reason, her nails turned out awesome). Polish All The Nails also did a “mermaid” style manicure using large glitter to form a kind of armor and I simply adore the look! I was feeling amazingly patient tonight and so I decided to try BOTH ideas for the first time!
In my celebratory “I haven’t bought polish for 30 days” haul I bought China Glaze Blue Iguana–a gorgeous shimmery, slightly duochrome-y blue. It’s a little sheer but I like it! Here’s Blue Iguana by itself after 2 coats.
After finishing my base color (this picture really doesn’t do it justice!) I grabbed a few coordinating shades of blue and teal. I even got to use 2 more colors I’d never used before, one from my international swap from the Netherlands and one I picked up at Walgreens weeks ago. After about an hour of dotting I ended up with a pretty neat effect! next time I’ll space the dots out a bit more but for a first try I’m really diggin’ it.
On my pinky I started working on the “nail armor” look…wow, I am glad I decided to start on my smallest nail, that’s for sure! The glitter I used was really small and if you look closely you can see that on the left side (closest to the edge of my hand) of my nail the glitter is close together…as it gets further to the right the glitter gets spaced out further, lol. It was really tough to get them spaced closely enough and placing such small glitter was really killing me. I alternated between blue and green glitter, though you can’t really tell the difference. I love the “disco ball” look it gives and I’ll definitely try it again…but probably either with bigger glitter or spaced out further.
This week’s theme is “A polish I’ve never used”. I’ve been waiting to try Selena because I had a specific idea in mind (that included two more polishes I’ve never used, perfect for this week’s theme!) and I must say I’m pretty darn happy with it. I have to admit, Selena looks…a little bit like baby poo. But it looks great for nail art, and I think this camo manicure is the perfect application.
Adding the matte topcoat to this design is what really makes this manicure. Glossy looks neat, sure, but matte just brings it to a whole new level. I’m not 100% happy with it but overall I think it turned out great for a first attempt!
