NOTD: The Ages of Myst

Note: I’m not a huge fan of flowers so I’m actually doing a second week of geeky/gamer nails for my personal challenge. Enjoy!

Ah, Myst. Myst was the first game I ever played through entirely on my own. I had the walkthrough book since I was only 11, but I still got through it without asking another person for help. Sometimes it was scary, sometimes it was so hard I wanted to just give up, but in the end I made it! I still replay it every so often, too, along with the rest of the games in the series.

I’m such a big fan of the game that when I recently came across my original walkthrough book, which was falling apart, I salvaged the map pages and mounted them on my wall!

There are 5 areas in Myst, the 1 main island (center picture above) and then 4 other areas. Each nail in this mani has been inspired by each of the other areas (Ages).

L-R Selenitic, Stoneship, Mechanical, Channelwood

For Selenitic and Stoneship I had to get a little creative. The Selenitic nail was inspired by the keyboard you use to open the age, specifically the diagram from the book to show you which keys to press. The stamp was a pain to use all those really thin lines took about 5 tries to pick up fully, and even then it got a little wobbly when I stamped it onto the nail. I hilighted the keys just like they were in Myst, too!

My Stoneship nail is even more obscure. In the Stoneship age you need to press a certain button to turn on the lights. The button is one in a series of buttons around a compass rose image, so I tried to recreate the compass rose on my nail. Not bad, for what I had on hand! It would’ve been nice if it had been centered but my approximating skills were off a bit.

The Mechanical Age and Channelwood were the easiest. A series of gears for Mechanical and a tree trunk for Channelwood. I actually used a zebra print stamp for the Channelwood nail, I just turned it 90 degrees so it looked like a tree pattern!

This was such a fun manicure, I might try to do Riven (the sequel) nails soon!!

NOTD: The good Alice

I couldn’t figure out what to do after yesterday’s Alice mani started chipping. Looking through my Pinterest inspiration board I saw this and knew I had to follow up Bad Alice with Good Alice! It doesn’t quite follow this week’s theme but oh well!

Alice in Wonderland is still one of my all-time favorite cartoon movies. I watch it every few months 🙂 I hope you can all tell who inspired which nail, but just in case my art is that bad…from thumb to pinky: White Rabbit, Alice, Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter, Red Queen.

I did this all freehand, it didn’t turn out perfect but I’m still really happy with it. I need more practice with freehand, I have a whole week of it coming up in a little over a month!

Bad, blurry close-up of my favorite nail, inspired by Alice herself. Please ignore my cuticles! They are in need of some TLC.

NOTD: Catching up!

This weekend was so busy I didn’t have any time to update you all on my nails! Saturday was spent with my mom celebrating Mother’s Day and then Sunday was spent with my honey’s family at a really nice winery for Mother’s Day. I had lots of fun!

First off, here’s a manicure inspired by a painting my good friend Kelli did for me. It’s a character from the video game Machinarium, and my art is nowhere near as good as hers but I’m still really happy with it.

Next up I did a special Mother’s Day mani on Saturday for my mom. This week’s theme is mom/mother’s day so they’re all done with her in mind!

I didn’t have a lot of time so I just removed my Machinarium art and replaced it with what was supposed to look like a tattoo banner that says “MOM”. Sorry for the blurry picture, it was so hard to even get one this “good”.

My mom is a tattoo fanatic and she’s always “bugging” me and saying I should get a tattoo…well, here it is!! I really like the idea of this mani but I don’t think I executed it very well. Next time I’ll do better, I’m sure, and there will definitely be a next time with this look!

Next up is the manicure I wore for Mother’s Day. My mom picked out the color combo which ended up matching the outfit I was going to wear very nicely! Can you tell Mom’s a fan of purple? 😉 Please excuse the tip wear, my base color wears really easily and I didn’t care enough to touch up >.>

Finally, on to today’s mani! It’s my favorite of the ones I’ve done recently. This one is inspired by my mom’s beliefs, paganism, and symbolizes the 5 elements of Wicca. From the pinky: Earth, Fire, Air, Water, and Spirit. I’m definitely going to be wearing this one for a few days!!

NOTD: Vibrant nails, finally!

Ok so this is the second manicure this week to actually follow this week’s theme, vibrant. It’s also my entry for Amandalandish’s Nail Art(ish) competition!! Wish me luck 🙂

All of the colors I used were from Holli’s package I got earlier today. I’ve been having a grumpy day and I was in desperate need of something bright and cheerful. Peachy Parfait isn’t a color I’d normally pick for myself but once I got it on I was so glad she got it for me! It was a little sheer at the first coat but with 3 coats it covered really nicely, I bet it’d look great as a glitter sandwich 🙂 Sadly my cell camera can’t photograph the color accurately. The actual color is more, well, peachy!

After I had Peachy Parfait on I thought it needed a little something more. I love accent nails and I had the gorgeously bright set of stripers so I started fiddling around with them. Purple first, ’cause, well, I love purple!

Pretty! But not bright enough!! I require more vibrancy! Pink!

Lookin’ nice! I was really happy with this look but since I’d used 2 of the 3 stripers I just had to toss the third in, too.

Mmm, yes, that makes me happy! I added a matte topcoat over it and it looked so nice. I was too tired to take pictures though, sorry!

  • Ulta Peach(y) Parfait (it’s new name, since I keep typoing Peach Parfait as Peachy Parfait!)

I love my friends!

Oh. Em. Gee! I truly have the best friends!

I met my friend Holli through a mutual friend (they were dating at the time). When they took a break I lost contact with Holli for a couple months, but now her and her ex are on better terms and I’ve gotten to talk to her more! She’s awesome, very sweet and loving, creative, and oh so pretty! And she totally supports my polish addiction 😉 And she and I realized a few weeks ago that we have matching rings that we both wear on our thumbs (I wear mine on my right, she wears hers on her left).

She told me a couple weeks ago that she wanted to send me a package, “just because” (which is my very favorite reason), but then she totally toyed with my heart and I forgot about it for a while. In her defense, one of the things she sent me had to be ordered so it wasn’t intentional 😉 Today I open my mailbox and see a package waiting for me. I check the return address as I wasn’t expecting any packages so big. This is how it went: “Hm, [Holli’s last name]? Who’s tha–OOH!” followed by frantically ripping the package open and inspecting the contents.

Can I just say, on the record, that this girl absolutely knows my tastes! I’ve really been itching for some new colors since April and May are both no-buy months (darn bills!) but this totally satisfied my addiction. A few months ago she had gotten me in a random lip balm swap (more exciting than it sounds, trust me!) and she sent me some EOS balm in Summer Fruit and I simply fell in love! This time she included another amazing balm from EOS, this time in Honeysuckle Honeydew. And the Magnetix (my first!) polish she got me is purple, my favorite color. And she got me my first two Ulta polishes! Seriously, this girl knows me so well I’m starting to worry she planted microphones in my apartment ;-D Oh, and she included the cutest handmade card 🙂 Let’s check out this amazing stuff!

Love you, Holli! ❤
