NOTD: Christmas in July

I spontaneously wanted to wear red nail polish today. Don’t ask me why because I have no idea. I have probably 20 pinks/reds but I wear them maybe once a month, but I can’t bear to part with most of them! I think red nail polish just makes me think of being a mom too much, which is a thought that terrifies me!!

So to break up the red, “Mom” feeling, I decided to do something fun. A blog I follow was doing a Christmas in July nail art contest and another was doing a season-inspired contest (I think a mish-mash of winter and summer counts!) and so I got my creative gears goin’. Here’s what I came up with:

And descriptions of my inspiration for each nail:

* The tinsel that continues to clog up the vacuum every. Single. Time.

* The glitter. Oh god, the glitter. Why does it never come off?!

* The Christmas tree you’ve been meaning to take down since January but have never quite gotten to.

* The re-gifted present that you can’t for the life of you imagine why Great Aunt Ethel thought you’d like it.

* The final credit card payment for your extravagant Christmas…just in time to start buying for this year!

This was tons of fun to do and I’m really glad I took the dive and participated. I generally don’t like Christmas-y stuff, but this was fun enough to make up for it! 😉

NOTD: Patriotic

Today is Memorial day, and I wanted to honor the occasion with patriotic nails. I couldn’t decide which design I wanted so…I did one on each hand 🙂

Sadly, the big star spangles came off right after taking this picture….so I used little nail crystals instead! I liked the bigger ones for the official picture, though.

On my right hand I got to try the “grunge” look for the first time. I was amazed how this….

…became this!

And here’s a shot with my thumb in it (sometimes I wonder why I bother painting it, it almost never makes its way into my pictures!)

As a humorous side note, I thought it was a little bit funny that I used a Dutch nail polish (the blue, Hema) in a US patriotic manicure. It was the perfect shade, though 🙂

NOTD: St Patty’s

So I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do a Saint Patrick’s day manicure since it’s not a holiday I celebrate, drinking isn’t really my thing, but I’ve been promising myself I’d give Suvi another chance before sending her away to be swapped… I might still try to swap this as Sinful Colors San Francisco is fairly similar, not quite as dark of a green but still close enough. At least now I can’t say I didn’t give it an honest try, though.

I wasn’t quite sure how I wanted this manicure to look when I started off. I put on the heart-shaped nail crystals in a four-leaf clover pattern and then realized I wanted MORE GOLD so I carefully put some Golden Goddess around it. I also didn’t realize Key to my Art was quite so opaque, I thought there was more space between the gold flecks in there (which is how it looks in the bottle) but I’m happy with how it turned out. I even did a little clover on my thumb using my dotting tool! Turned out way better than I’d expected.

This is my first manicure I’ve ever done with Seche Vite so I’ve gotten some shrinkage on the sides and a couple bubbles but I did remember to wrap my tips! Hopefully I’ll get better at applying it soon, I’m not used to applying polish to semi-wet nails so it was very weird, I kept worrying I’d smudge all my polish off 😡 Also the smell is so strong.

Sorry the closeup of my thumb is so blurry, it was impossible to get a good photo of it.
