I accidentally mixed up an extra Link mini so I’ve decided to keep it for myself 🙂 I’ve also had China Glaze Agro for like 2 months and haven’t used it yet even though I’ve been dying to try it on. So tonight I decided to use both of them! And boy do they look great together. Link has gold, green, brown, and blue glitter. I just love the blue since it’s such a stark contrast to the more low-key colors.
I haven’t bothered to topcoat this yet so it’s not as smooth as it could be but I’m actually not sure how long I’ll be keeping this on–I have a design I just need to try!
As some of you have likely heard, Nerd Lacquer has been having family troubles and has basically dropped off the Internet. Her polishes are no longer being sold 😦
I’ve been dying for a Nerd Lacquer for *months* now but since she’s taking a break from selling polish I was left high and dry! My friend let me use hers (which you can see here) and another friend posted a “recipe” for a frankendupe here. I didn’t follow it too closely but it was a great starting point. My formula was this…
Love & Beauty silver holo, Wet n Wild Kaleidoscope, Sinful Colors Mint Apple, franken Galadriel, magenta and silver square glitter
I opted for the silver square glitter because…well heck, I love square glitter! And I felt like the Love & Beauty polish didn’t quite have enough large glitter in it, nor was the glitter large enough. Mint Apple had the perfect green shimmer, a little went a long way. I might use Milani Fuchsia glitter in place of the loose fuchsia if I ever make another one of these, my loose glitter might bleed over time and that would make me so sad!
The picture doesn’t capture it well (that’s what I get for late-night lacquering!) but comparing my nails to swatches of All of Time and Space shows that they are super close! I really do prefer mine though, especially because of the square glitter 🙂
For my indie polish line I’m starting up I definitely want the general theme to be “geeky”. Of course I’ve talked about my Zelda line about a million times in the past week or two, but today’s creations are just a mini collection.
These two polishes are inspired by the Nintendo game Bubble Bobble. It’s a game my brother and I played a ton growing up 🙂 Basically it’s a game where you play as adorable dragons Bub (green) and Bob (blue) and you try to rescue your kidnapped girlfriends!
I used the actual colors of Bub and Bob as inspiration. Medium dark blue and small light blue glitter for Bobblin’, medium light glitter and small yellow glitter for Bubblin’. Simple, but I love them!! Bobblin’ on the left, Bubblin’ on the right. Click for hi-res so you can see the little glitter better! 🙂
And just because I thought it looked really neat before I started mixing… (Bobblin’)
These are just prototypes but a slightly reformulated version of these will be available for pre-order once my Kickstarter is up! Keep an eye out for them 🙂
Any other Mario fans here? I’m a huge fan of Mario! Those of you who follow my craft blog might remember my various Mario projects. I still have a Nintendo and a Super Nintendo plugged in and ready to play Mario at a moment’s notice!!
Today’s manicure is inspired by the 1UP mushroom from Super Mario. I’d seen ideas similar to this and wanted to try it. I’m overall pretty happy with it–I got a little impatient and I could have done better, but oh well! More freehand practice, right? 🙂 I had to rush to get ready for dinner, that’s my excuse!
After I was done I felt the need to add a little something sparkly, so I mixed up another glitter polish!! Keep an eye out for a post about that really soon (as in, hopefully when I’m done posting this one I’ll write it up, lol)
This weekend has been so hectic, I haven’t even had time to blog!
Saturday was a-maze-ing! My friend had a nail polish get-together at her house and invited some of her friends, everyone brought nail polish and makeup and we spent 6 hours painting our nails, doing each others’ makeup, and baking cookies. I was in heaven! I don’t get to hang out with people too often so it was great to get some girl time 🙂 I even got to try my first Nerd Lacquer polishes (which totally fit in with this week’s theme of “geeky/gamer”)!!! Check it out!
After I had my Nerd Lacquer on I just had to use the little kitty and paw print stamps on my ring finger and thumb. I just got my first cat last Friday and I’m still gushing over how sweet and perfect he is 🙂

One lady and I totally hit it off and talked for pretty much the whole time we were there, lol! She loved my Obsidian and I couldn’t pass up a chance to show off the first person to try my new indie brand 🙂

After I was done playing with the polish I got into the Makeover Chair. I’m the kind of gal who wears makeup every 3 or 4 months and I haven’t had someone else do my makeup in probably about a decade. I’m glad I went for it, though! That night I only wore it out to one store but who cares, I felt awesome 😉
This week’s theme is “A polish I’ve never used”. I’ve been waiting to try Selena because I had a specific idea in mind (that included two more polishes I’ve never used, perfect for this week’s theme!) and I must say I’m pretty darn happy with it. I have to admit, Selena looks…a little bit like baby poo. But it looks great for nail art, and I think this camo manicure is the perfect application.
Adding the matte topcoat to this design is what really makes this manicure. Glossy looks neat, sure, but matte just brings it to a whole new level. I’m not 100% happy with it but overall I think it turned out great for a first attempt!
This has been a crazy weekend so I actually didn’t get the chance to post Thursday’s NOTD. I hope you can all forgive me!
I did my toes a few days ago and since I was going to be out talking to people all day Saturday I had to do a matching manicure. I was so happy to find out that my Bundle Monster set had the very same flower used in the French tip stamp I used on my toes so that I could put a coordinating flower on my fingers! This was also the second time I’d used my Konad special black polish and WOW does it really make a difference. I’d been trying to use Wet n Wild Black Creme and I just couldn’t get it to work but this stuff always works. It’s really a minor investment if you plan on doing lots of stamping 🙂
I’m still learning the special little tricks on how to do perfect stamping so as you can see on my toe I didn’t let the stamping polish dry for long enough and it smeared. I was impatient, next time I’ll let it sit for longer, since it ends up being so thin on the nail it should dry pretty quick though.
Oh, and I took this picture on my new (King sized even though my bed is a Queen! I feel so decadent) comforter. Doesn’t it match nicely?
