So the night before last I asked my Facebook fans if I should do neon purple or neon pink nails and everyone suggested purple!
Guys…you have great taste 😀 Sadly the camera doesn’t quite capture the true color of this polish. I got it in a swap but I’m pretty sure it came in this mini set as the other color I got looks like the second color in the pack. It’s not Pucci-licious though, it’s WAY darker, so I’m stumped as to what color it actually is. OH WELL. It’s gorgeous!
When doing this manicure I was reminded of why despite my love of stamping I do it so rarely. I tried probably 4 or 5 different times to get ANY of my stamps to work. The polish I used has worked great in the past so I don’t know if maybe it’s just too dang hot (it is for me, I know that) or if the polish has dried up too much, or maybe my stamps just sucked. In the end I had to totally take off and redo my accent nail 3 times, and even the stamp I used in the end didn’t transfer perfectly so I stamped over it again. It’s still not perfect, but I covered the biggest mistake with a lovely rhinestone so all is well!
Today I went swimming and the sunlight shows the true color a lot better. I also got a shot of the iridescent stamping on my nail!!
In the process of planning my Legend of Zelda collection I mixed up preliminary prototypes using craft glitter, which does NOT hold up in nail polish base. Over time it bleeds out and now I have a whole set of 12 minis at varying degrees of bleeding. Some of them are so bled-out that the original color of the glitter is completely gone and they’ve turned silver with a colored base (sometimes brown due to the original glitter mix, ew) but this color has maintained its original slight yellow tinge. This is 4 coats of Prototype Prelude of Light, it’s NOT going to be fun to take off 😉
Being a frugal lacquerista I can’t justify throwing this stuff away!! And so I’ve decided to work my way through them and try to empty out at least one bottle in the foreseeable future. I absolutely failed at doing even a single manicure for last week’s theme so I’m just counting last week as a break, I’m re-starting week 12 and hoping to ACTUALLY do some stamping this week!
The purple I used is Color Club Electronica, I got it on Copious for just a penny after I applied my credits (this has been an AMAZING way to get through no-buy months) but haven’t had the chance to try it out yet. I thought it paired nicely with my base color and it’s even prettier than I thought!! I think my next mani will have this as its base 🙂

And just for fun, I wanted to show how drastically a jelly sandwich can change a glitter, so I did my first jelly sandwich(ish)!
Un-sandwiched; half-sandwiched; full-sandwiched!
With a normal jelly sandwich you use a jelly polish as a base as well as on top, but I didn’t want my nail line to show so I used an opaque red base.
As many of you know, since there’s where you first found my blog, I love reddit! For those of you who don’t know, reddit is a social media site where people can upload pictures, new articles, ask the community for help and input, whatever! There’s even a community (called a subreddit) dedicated just to nail polish stuff 😀
Saturday is a global meetup day for reddit, a day when all across the world a bunch of redditors all gather to hang out. I decided I had to do something special for the occasion, so I did some reddit imagery. When you like something on reddit you give it an upvote so it gets more visibility, and when you don’t like something you downvote it. Two fingers on my hand correlate pretty well with the upvote and downvote system…Well, I’ll just let you see for yourself 😉
Last night I posted to my Facebook asking for color ideas and Jilltastic suggested I use orange. I almost never wear orange but I was so sick of removing glitter polish, I wanted something easier to remove when the time came 😉 I have this sort of ugly orange foil-y franken I mixed up that I try to use up whenever I get the chance so I did a coat of that for my base. It’s a great one-coater, if nothing else, and a wonderful base for other orange colors. Then I got the brilliant idea to try monarch/butterfly nails! This is my first attempt at this so it could use some work, but overall I’m really happy with it.
Since I hate the finish so much (but can’t bear to dump it out) I did two different sheer oranges over it–184.108.40.206.Orange and Sparkle and Soar. It’s a bit difficult to see the difference in the colors but inside the curve at the base of my nail is just my ugly franken and 220.127.116.11.Orange, the rest of the nail is those colors plus Sparkle and Soar over it. I absolutely adore Sparkle and Soar, I’ll have to dedicate a manicure just to it soon 🙂
I’m surprised at how much freehand art I’ve been doing lately–it’s great practice for my freehand art week I have coming up!
This weekend has been great for nail mail! I got three different polish sets on Friday and Saturday 🙂
I got both the China Glaze and Kleancolor sets from Copious and I paid only a penny for China Glaze and about $1 for the Kleancolors. The Color Club Take Wing collection was a gift from my friend JohJoh, she asked me for polish suggestions and I suggested she check out the Take Wing collection, she liked it so much she got me the entire set as a thank you! 🙂 Thanks so much, JohJoh! I can’t wait to try them all ❤
The two rainbow sets (Kleancolor and Color Club) are perfect since I’ve been doing a ton of rainbow manis lately, I’m sure you’ll all be seeing swatches or nail art with these soon!
This week’s theme is officially rainbow! I had an idea in mind for this but it didn’t turn out how I’d liked, but I’m far too tired to attempt it again so it’ll have to wait. I’ll probably try again tomorrow, so keep an eye out for it!
I’m horrible at cutting tape evenly so I tried a new method tonight. I took a ruler and measured out how far apart I wanted each stripe (2.5mm in this case) and then using my ruler as a straightedge I cut the tape with my Xacto blade–perfectly straight, perfectly measured strips every time! Then I placed all the strips (keeping them as together as possible) on my nail, painted one color, removed the tape for the next section and very carefully painted the next color as well. By doing this I was able to still get the crisp lines of tape but I didn’t have to wait to tape off both parts, the only issue is I had to be very careful when painting the portion that was closest to my previous stripe, but that wasn’t too tough.
Just a reminder that I do have a nail art contest going on right now–make sure you check it out, I’ve already gotten 3 entries that I’ve posted to my Facebook page. I’ll be accepting entries until June 30th and I’ll have two winners, so make sure you enter and share with your friends!
Over the last 3 days I’ve gotten 6 nail polishes in the mail from swaps and from Copious (Color Club for a penny? Oh yes please. Sign up for a $10 credit!) and I wanted something simple. I absolutely had to try this Color Club glitter but I also had to get to sleep, so I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Urgent Orchid and layered a coat of Tru Passion over it–super simple, super fast, and super pretty!
I absolutely adore purple glitters (I think I have about 5 now), what’s your favorite kind of polish??
