So the night before last I asked my Facebook fans if I should do neon purple or neon pink nails and everyone suggested purple!
Guys…you have great taste 😀 Sadly the camera doesn’t quite capture the true color of this polish. I got it in a swap but I’m pretty sure it came in this mini set as the other color I got looks like the second color in the pack. It’s not Pucci-licious though, it’s WAY darker, so I’m stumped as to what color it actually is. OH WELL. It’s gorgeous!
When doing this manicure I was reminded of why despite my love of stamping I do it so rarely. I tried probably 4 or 5 different times to get ANY of my stamps to work. The polish I used has worked great in the past so I don’t know if maybe it’s just too dang hot (it is for me, I know that) or if the polish has dried up too much, or maybe my stamps just sucked. In the end I had to totally take off and redo my accent nail 3 times, and even the stamp I used in the end didn’t transfer perfectly so I stamped over it again. It’s still not perfect, but I covered the biggest mistake with a lovely rhinestone so all is well!
Today I went swimming and the sunlight shows the true color a lot better. I also got a shot of the iridescent stamping on my nail!!
In the process of planning my Legend of Zelda collection I mixed up preliminary prototypes using craft glitter, which does NOT hold up in nail polish base. Over time it bleeds out and now I have a whole set of 12 minis at varying degrees of bleeding. Some of them are so bled-out that the original color of the glitter is completely gone and they’ve turned silver with a colored base (sometimes brown due to the original glitter mix, ew) but this color has maintained its original slight yellow tinge. This is 4 coats of Prototype Prelude of Light, it’s NOT going to be fun to take off 😉
Being a frugal lacquerista I can’t justify throwing this stuff away!! And so I’ve decided to work my way through them and try to empty out at least one bottle in the foreseeable future. I absolutely failed at doing even a single manicure for last week’s theme so I’m just counting last week as a break, I’m re-starting week 12 and hoping to ACTUALLY do some stamping this week!
The purple I used is Color Club Electronica, I got it on Copious for just a penny after I applied my credits (this has been an AMAZING way to get through no-buy months) but haven’t had the chance to try it out yet. I thought it paired nicely with my base color and it’s even prettier than I thought!! I think my next mani will have this as its base 🙂

And just for fun, I wanted to show how drastically a jelly sandwich can change a glitter, so I did my first jelly sandwich(ish)!
Un-sandwiched; half-sandwiched; full-sandwiched!
With a normal jelly sandwich you use a jelly polish as a base as well as on top, but I didn’t want my nail line to show so I used an opaque red base.
Ok, so I haven’t gotten to post a few things recently because stuff has been super crazy. Working non-stop on my rainbow skirt, learning to ride a motorcycle, and getting all the orders out from the Legend of Zelda collection. I actually went 3 or 4 days this week with totally naked nails–not even a basecoat! I was almost ashamed when I went out of the house, I tried to keep my nails out of sight, lol.
But now most of the craziness is over and hopefully I’ll be able to return to my usual posting schedule of 3 or 4 times a week 🙂 So let’s do a recap of what’s happened over the past week or so, shall we?
First, I got my prize from a flash giveaway Set in Lacquer held on Facebook as well as a few other goodies I picked up at Sally’s and from Copious.
Sally Hansen Preps’ Cool; OPI Lil’ Shooters minis; Orly Out of this World; China Glaze Smoke & Ashes; Orly Mysterious Curse (Royal Velvet re-release); nail crystals
Last week’s theme for my personal nail art challenge was Trans* pride but I didn’t get to devote nearly enough effort into it so I’ll be doing a couple more trans* pride manis soon. This was my first attempt at “Spun sugar” nails and I’m fairly pleased with it!
Finally, the Frankenbug bit me and I just had to mix up a neon green glittery polish. I added some of my loose glitter to it and came up with this, which I’m pretty pleased with! I wore it over Sally Girl Lime because I knew I couldn’t stand to remove 3 layers of glitter polish 😉 I added the random stamp as I just had a plate swap with a friend and I thought this one was kinda funky!
As those of you who follow my Facebook know I was mixing up a ton of polish from my Legend of Zelda collection (pre-sale still going on now!). I now have the finalized formulas completed 🙂 Because I was elbow-deep in glitter all evening I, being a glutton for punishment, decided I had to do glitter French tips.
This was so simple to do, also! I started with a coat of white (underwear, yay!) because I didn’t want to stain my nails using Savage like I did a few days ago. Next, two coats of each color, then a quick swipe over the whole nail of quick-dry topcoat and a quick dunk into a vial of loose coordinating glitter. Lots and lots of scraping off loose glitter that got on my skin and TA-DA! A lovely effect. I’ll be topcoating over these and I still expect half of the glitter to come off in my bed but who cares, right? If glitter comes off easy I’ll take it, lol!
This post is also part of Try It On Tuesday, my friend Jill at Jilltastic Nails is getting her blog buddies to use a polish on Tuesdays that they’ve just had sitting in their collection but never worn. Presto Pink was my Try It On color, and I think Urgent Orchid is unused, too! Check out her page, she’ll have a round-up of all the bloggers taking part in Try It On Tuesday.
As a side note, I adore Savage’s natural finish. I tried to get a picture of it but none turned out well. It’s a lovely satin-y matte, it just looks so smooth 🙂
Holy cow, guys. I’m a major slacker! I did this manicure like 3 days ago and forgot to post it! I hope you’ll forgive me 🙂 I’m super proud of this though and wanted to do it justice with a good post. First I want to show off the final mani 🙂
Wow, I am really impressed with myself with this one! This week’s theme is LGBT pride but I was at a loss for anything other than more rainbow designs but a friend suggested paying homage to each letter in LGBT with their flags! There’s a lot more than just “LGBT” in the non-heteronormative spectrum but I only have 5 fingers so I stuck with the biggies. From my index finger: Transgender, bisexual, rainbow (gay), and pink triangle (lesbian) flags/symbols. I should have done my pinky with the colors inverted so it was a black triangle on pink, and the triangle should have been pointing down instead of up…oops! That’s what I get for being in a hurry. Last night I took off the polish from my pinky and did a pink background with a black downward-facing triangle, I like it much more. You can learn more about each flag here.
It’s been bright and sunny here in SoCal lately so I was dying to break out my holographics! I figured that there was no better set of colors to use for this mani, especially for my ring finger’s rainbow flag–it’s a rainbow within a rainbow! And oh how they sparkle ❤
I also finished mixing my rainbow glitter, Pride, so I used my thumb to symbolize the LGBT ally flag. This is two coats of Pride over black and white stripes, I’m so happy with how it turned out 🙂 It’s been marinating for a few days now and there doesn’t seem to be any warping, bending, or bleeding either!
This entire mani was freehand!! I got some more much-needed practice, I think I’m really improving 🙂
My kitty…I love him, but sometimes he’s a little pain in the butt! Last night I was trying to paint my nails and he just wanted to cuddle, I wasn’t allowed to do anything else. Right as I was done taking pictures of my still-somewhat-moist manicure he rubbed right against my nails and smudged them all up. All the time I’d taken to let my base color dry was wasted! And look at how lovely it had been:
I actually had done a different design on my right hand (normal rainbow French tips in the same order as above with glitter over them) but he smudged those before I even had time for pictures.
I did the entire tip design for the mani that did last more than a few minutes using my dotting tools. I didn’t have time to topcoat so my ring finger is still matte, but I’m glad I didn’t waste it since I had such a lovey kitty waiting for me to be done–I would have just had cat fur all over them! So I ended up taking this off right away and going to bed with naked nails (so sad) but it did make it very easy to do an entirely different design this morning–two of them, in fact!
For my left hand I used a rainbow glitter I mixed up myself over (close to) rainbow ombre nails an I *love* it! It has a slight red jelly base and in the bottle it looks so red, but once it’s on the nail the rest of the colors really stand out. It’s not the look I’d hoped to get with the rainbow glitter but it’s very pretty! I might mix up another one for a giveaway 🙂
My right hand is my favorite look for the rainbow ombre colors I used for these 3 looks. Super simple, too! I just put black crackle over the ombre. I love them both!
I have to admit, I am very surprised at just how much I like this mani. I mean, I thought it was a neat idea but seeing it on my fingers….just wow!
I’m really loving this week’s theme, I’m such a sucker for rainbow 🙂 I’m hoping to give some people inspiration for the nail art contest I’m hosting this month. I’ve already gotten 6 entries, which you can check out on my Facebook page, and I am loving what everyone’s coming up with! Remember that there are two categories and two winners, one for amateur and one for advanced, so don’t let the other entries discourage you if you think your nail art skills aren’t as advanced as theirs! All are welcome.
I wasn’t sure at first what I wanted the base color for my rainbow crystals to be. I asked a few friends and someone suggested black–I’d been considering white before but black just sounded so much nicer. I actually decided to do an ombre gradient for this, my thumb is white and it transitions to black on the pinky. I like this idea much better than I liked the plain white background idea! I actually only had 2 shades of grey, a light and a dark, so for my middle finger I mixed a drop of dark and 2 drops of light. I think it turned out great!
I’ve also been invited to march in the San Diego Pride Parade! I really hope I’m able to do it 😀
