NOTD: I’ve been a busy blogger!

Ok, so I haven’t gotten to post a few things recently because stuff has been super crazy. Working non-stop on my rainbow skirt, learning to ride a motorcycle, and getting all the orders out from the Legend of Zelda collection. I actually went 3 or 4 days this week with totally naked nails–not even a basecoat! I was almost ashamed when I went out of the house, I tried to keep my nails out of sight, lol.

But now most of the craziness is over and hopefully I’ll be able to return to my usual posting schedule of 3 or 4 times a week 🙂 So let’s do a recap of what’s happened over the past week or so, shall we?

First, I got my prize from a flash giveaway Set in Lacquer held on Facebook as well as a few other goodies I picked up at Sally’s and from Copious.

Sally Hansen Preps’ Cool; OPI Lil’ Shooters minis; Orly Out of this World; China Glaze Smoke & Ashes; Orly Mysterious Curse (Royal Velvet re-release); nail crystals

Last week’s theme for my personal nail art challenge was Trans* pride but I didn’t get to devote nearly enough effort into it so I’ll be doing a couple more trans* pride manis soon. This was my first attempt at “Spun sugar” nails and I’m fairly pleased with it!

Finally, the Frankenbug bit me and I just had to mix up a neon green glittery polish. I added some of my loose glitter to it and came up with this, which I’m pretty pleased with! I wore it over Sally Girl Lime because I knew I couldn’t stand to remove 3 layers of glitter polish 😉 I added the random stamp as I just had a plate swap with a friend and I thought this one was kinda funky!

NOTD: Rainbow accent

This week’s theme is officially rainbow! I had an idea in mind for this but it didn’t turn out how I’d liked, but I’m far too tired to attempt it again so it’ll have to wait. I’ll probably try again tomorrow, so keep an eye out for it!

I’m horrible at cutting tape evenly so I tried a new method tonight. I took a ruler and measured out how far apart I wanted each stripe (2.5mm in this case) and then using my ruler as a straightedge I cut the tape with my Xacto blade–perfectly straight, perfectly measured strips every time! Then I placed all the strips (keeping them as together as possible) on my nail, painted one color, removed the tape for the next section and very carefully painted the next color as well. By doing this I was able to still get the crisp lines of tape but I didn’t have to wait to tape off both parts, the only issue is I had to be very careful when painting the portion that was closest to my previous stripe, but that wasn’t too tough.

Just a reminder that I do have a nail art contest going on right now–make sure you check it out, I’ve already gotten 3 entries that I’ve posted to my Facebook page. I’ll be accepting entries until June 30th and I’ll have two winners, so make sure you enter and share with your friends!

NOTD: The Last Unicorn

This may be my Pièce de résistance manicure. Inspired by my favorite cartoon from my childhood, incorporating all nail art techniques I’ve tried my hand at, and despite the art not turning out perfectly I am so pleased! Stamping, water marble, precision brushes, dotting tools, crystals, and taping–oh my! This was one epic manicure. 27 colors, 2 stamping plates, 3+ hours, and years of nostalgia at my fingertips.

The Last Unicorn is one of my two favorite movies from my childhood, the other being The Labyrinth (and later in life, The Nightmare Before Christmas, which will most certainly get its own manicure come October). It’s one of those movies that I could watch every day and never get tired of it. I’m 24 years old and to this day I still tear up during the movie, especially at the end. I even have the book, er, somewhere.

Neverland Nail Blog is having a nail art contest with the theme “Do you believe in magic?” I wasn’t entirely sure of the specifics for what I wanted to do but I knew I needed to do it based on The Last Unicorn. I love the idea of having a theme and doing each nail with a different character/aspect. The Unicorn/Amalthea and the Unicorns got two nails each because I love them so much!

Now, I know my art isn’t amazing but please indulge me–I’m proud of this and my ego is fragile 😉 Click the pics for larger versions!

NOTD: Whimsical and Popular to celebrate my new nephew

My honey’s sister had a new baby boy yesterday!! He’s her second baby, she’ll have two little boys running around soon enough.

To celebrate I decided to finally use Popular and Whimsical which I won from Nails Adored‘s giveaway recently. I actually started this manicure last night at midnight, I’d noticed my Stone Cold matte-icure chipped and I, of course, had to remove it immediately. Sadly my nail experiment failed, even with a total of 7 layers of lacquer. My matte-icure lasted the same amount of time with the extra topcoat versus without the extra topcoat, only it was exponentially more difficult to remove!! I went through 4 cotton balls (I unroll them and cut them into chunks) whereas I can normally use 1 or 2 for most manicures.

I told myself that since it was so late I would just do a base coat and then finish my nails in the morning…Then I told myself I’d just do my base color and do the glitter in the morning…then suddenly it was 1AM and I was putting my topcoat on after my glitter >.> Thank goodness for quick-dry topcoat, I actually got to sleep before 2AM. I got frustrated with this manicure because the glitter in Whimsical was just so sparse, I had to try to very carefully hand-place the larger pieces of glitter, and even then it was sparse. Popular, on the other hand, had perfect coverage with just a single coat. Next time I’ll plan on doing at least two or three coats of Whimsical to ensure I get enough of the large glitter on the nail, but for now I’m happy with how it turned out.

NOTD: Scandalous with tons of nail stickers

So as you may have seen in my earlier post I got nail mail today! I’d been planning manicures since I found out I won the Nails Adored giveaway and I knew I had to try Scandalous first. I’ve also been meaning to use up some of my nail crystals and nail stickers I bought recently so I figured I’d just sort of throw everything I had into this mani…. I may have overdone it just a smidge 😉

Oh well, I don’t care if I’ve overdone it, I’m really happy with how this turned out! I can’t wait to see how Scandalous looks in the sunlight tomorrow 🙂 I wanted to avoid using more of this gorgeous color than I needed to so I put a single base coat of black on most of my nails, then did accents with purple to lighten how Scandalous would look once it was painted on.

  • e.l.f. Royal Purple
  • Revlon Scandalous
  • Kiss nail stickers

My first Nail Mail post!

*Singsong voice* It’s nail mail tiiiime~

I’ve been entering a ton of giveaways recently (I think I’m waiting on about thirty to end) and I’ve even won a couple of them!! I got two packages in the mail today and I’m so excited to try them out :3

The first three I got from Nails Adored. First is Revlon’s Whimsical which is a dupe of Deborah Lippmann’s Glitter in the Air. Next is Scandalous, another DL dupe, this time of Bad Romance (I just love that name!). The last Revlon is Popular which as far as I know isn’t a known dupe but it is gorgeous!

My second package was from Crazy for Lacquer. She had a great flash giveaway on her Facebook page and I was one of two lucky winners! I got Deborah Lippmann’s Prelude to a Kiss! It’s my first Deborah Lippmann and I’m almost scared to try it since it’s such a fancy and expensive brand 😡

Thank you so much to both Nails Adored and Crazy for Lacquer! Please check out their blogs/FB pages and show them some love 🙂
